Ramadhan in Batam
To date, I've completed almost 15 days of Ramadhan over in Batam.
During my time spend overhere, we've tasted out the local dishes during the ramadhan, me and my work buddy Hafeez did cook, but after the fridge give up, leaving the fish, meat and chicken rotten, we've no other way out, need to go out and dine.
Our driver - Yono did bring us to new place called Tanjung Uma/ Umar here in Batam, it was said that this place is a good place if you want to try out grilled fish (burnt fish - ikan bakar).
Usually the fish/ meat is marinated (with spices and other herbs) and then grilled with charcoal; sometimes a banana leaf or the aluminium foil are put between the fish and hotplate/ grill. some of the popular form of seafood besides fish includes squid (sotong) and stingray. This grilled seafood, then served with a hot plate of rice together with the sauce - either the sambal belacan or black ketchup mixed up with chilies cut and tamarind/ lime juice.
Tanjung Umar is quite popular among the local for its cheap, affordable and reasonable price of grilled fish. depending of the type and the weight, you can actually get much cheaper price of fish compared to the rest of the ramadhan bazaar i went in batam. and
they just dont sell grilled fish, there's other delicacies sold over there as well. but you need to be there early, the crowd won't spare the fish for you.

As the road is relatively small and no parking space nearby, you'll need to park your car and walk on foot to the bazaar. |
