Life in Batam
arrghhh it's been awhile since i challenge myself to do more write up on my blog. its not that i want to be lazy, but it's the job making me tired and sleep early every night i'm here. :D
so let me tell you what's so special about Batam. What's a good about Batam.
Batam is actually in Riau island archipelago. you'll be having 2 option to travel to Batam, taking the ferry or having a fly over to the Batam's airport. I'm not sure about the flight, so we skip on this.
Batam as far as 45 minutes (nausea ride for me :)) from Singapore by ferry or 1 1/2 hour ride if you're coming from Johor Bahru (ferry stops in Stulang Laut - The Zon). Over the weekend there's a lot of Singaporean's and expatriates living in Singapore travel there on weekends to enjoy the cheaper nightlife than in Singapore. Cheaper drinks, cheaper massage and lots of bar girls to choose from!
Living Cost
Living cost in Batam is moderate and the cost is considered among the highest cost of living city throughout Indonesia. as a comparison, the living cost is slightly cheaper than Malaysia and a way cheaper than Singapore.
Accomodation
In Batam, you can get yourself a variety of hotels and accommodations to choose from, from a 5 star rated to a single star rated hotel depending on you willingness to spend.
Among the hotels available here are
1. I hotel - in Nagoya
2. The Planet Hotel- in Nagoya
3. Swiss Hotel - in Nagoya
4. The Hills - in Nagoya
5. Harris Hotel - in Batam Center
and a few more to names.
Foods
There's a lot of food variety to choose from a local delicacies - nasi padang, nasi jawa, bakso , chinese dishes to western dishes. the price here are quite cheap and if you're indeed want to try out seafood, you may get yourself to the seafood village in Barelang or Harbour Bay.
Nightlife
if you're 'night crawler' or someone who's enjoying nightlife. this place could be your 'heaven in earth'.
A nightlife district popular among single expats is Nagoya entertainment district, or just called NED, this compact district is bounded by the Melia Panorama, Goodway and Harmoni hotels. Lucy's Oarhouse is easiest to find, turn left out of the Melia’s front entrance and walk 100m. The famous PP Banana GoGo is upstairs. Rio Rita is over the road. Turn right out Lucy's front door and you can see the Jungle Bar, Classics, Red Cock, Bistro, Ice Pub and Steps Music Lounge. McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken and several money changers are in the same area.
There are three places for you hanging out or exploring, before heading back for a good night's sleep:
1. Karaoke
It is very popular with Chinese and Singaporean, so most of the songs are in Chinese with some well-known English songs. The karaoke's provide private rooms as well for a group of 3 to 8 people or maybe more. ths could be an option to avoid ears pollutions from a ba
2. Nightclubs
'no night without a nightclub'
nightclubs and disco here do have alternate music from techno to up to date pop music. some of this club has live bands playing variety of songs ranging from english, indonesia, chinese songs. they're operating from 1900 hrs and will get crowded during midnight and run until 0300 hrs, while some open till 0500 hrs.
There are many massage centers that are reputable establishments that offer a professional massage service. Then again there are plenty of the dodgy massage parlours that will give you a massage and depending on the girl, will offer you that happy ending you may want. There are several massage parlors in the bar district behind Harmoni Hotel which do offer the cheaper massage service like this. An hour massage can be as low as 75,000Rp ( about US$8) though the girls will generally ask for another 200,000Rp (about US$22) for the happy ending or some call it a sensual massage and with most things in Indonesia a bit of bargaining can bring the price down.
so its up to you!..
i've yet to experience the beaches and other nice place here in Batam. catch me up later then...
