as the title says, spending hari raya is not happenning indeed when you're not with your big family gathering visiting your relatives house, and an all day eat event you have in celebration for the end of ramadhan and celebrating the victory for your to tame your inner soul to the lust of the world.
paying the Zakat al fitr here is quite different from Malaysia, where you dont have 'amil' , the person responsible and being appointed by the Religious council to accept the payment of Zakat from you on behalf of the council. i'm not sure how the other side of the country pays the zakat, but this done by puting in the sum of zakat money for you and your family into the box provided by the masjid. usually it comes with an 'Akad' but since there's none, i just made paid the amount straight to the box. the amount of zakat per person is different in every county/country, so it's better to verify with the local masjid.
Hari raya here will not be a lonely if you know some of the Malaysian here, we're still celebrated the raya days with visiting friend house, gathering and so on. i've yet to do any open house as i'm stuck in the office during Hari raya and couldnt go visiting as my wife still not quite healthy for a car ride.
hopefully we'll be able to go and celebrate the hari raya when my wife is health is better.
ciao.
